From Pool Service to Commercial Pools & Water Parks: The Sunbelt Pools Story

At Sunbelt Pools, we have never been the type of pool builder to look at commercial pools and see only concrete, water, tile, and pool equipment.

We see the kid who talks with their dad all the way home about racing together down the slide of a lifetime. The family that comes back every Saturday because “this is our happy place.” The hotel guest who forgets their room number but definitely remembers the stunning pool. The epic summer camp swim-and-play experience that boosted a child’s confidence and helped them make new friends. The parks director who needs opening day to go right, summer to run smoothly, and the phone to stay blissfully quiet because everything is working the way it should.

Those are the things we love to envision as we build each amazing facility for our clients and their guests.

And that is why our award-winning work in commercial aquatics matters to so many.

It’s a pool-building journey that didn’t happen from sitting in a boardroom. Our team learned it the real way, working with real people.

Before Sunbelt Pools was building big commercial pools, aquatic centers, water parks, and community gathering places, we were out there doing the daily work: cleaning pools, answering service calls, selling chemicals, handling pool remodels, and refining our pool process to deliver what actually holds up once the crowds appear and the season gets busy.

Although Sunbelt Pools was officially incorporated in 1987, our roots go back to 1979, when the service side of our pool business first got rolling. That hands-on start still shows up in the way we think, plan, build, and communicate today. With a servant-leadership focus, we know how to move from concept to creation, designing and executing some of the most innovative aquatic spaces in the United States.

A great commercial pool is not just the one that looks impressive. It’s about doing work that owners, operators, general contractors, municipalities, apartments, hotels, and recreation teams can depend on for the long haul. And it’s the one that keeps making people happy long after the big ribbon-cutting scissors are put away.

Our 40 incredible years of history are the solid foundation that shapes and guides the company we are today. Come discover why Sunbelt Pools is the leading commercial pool builder for commercial aquatics in Texas, Oklahoma, and the entire South Central United States.

We Learned Commercial Pools the Right Way

Commercial pools are not simply larger versions of residential pools. They come with different expectations. The use is heavier. The systems are more complex. The margin for error is smaller.

A hotel pool, splash pad, waterpark, aquatic center, municipal pool, or public pool must be ready for the continual flow of people, long hours, and extra wear and tear.

Sunbelt Pools came into commercial aquatics through real field experience. Our early work included service, chemical sales, and remodeling. As our relationships grew, so did our opportunities. Chemical distribution helped connect us with commercial facilities. Service work introduced us to hotels and municipalities. Remodels opened the door to bigger construction challenges.

This gave us a front-row seat to what actually happens after a facility opens. That work connected us with recreation teams and property owners who needed more than a quick fix. They needed a commercial pool company that understood the full life of a commercial facility.

Eventually, we began building commercial aquatic facilities from the ground up.

That transition came with a learning curve. We are honest about that. Commercial construction teaches lessons quickly, and often the hard way. But those lessons became part of our company’s strength. They shape how we estimate, plan, build, and support clients during and after their project, with attentive, expert customer care.

Today, when we look at a commercial pool project, we are not only thinking about the finished surface. We are thinking about the hidden work, the long-term operation, the owner’s expectations, and the people who will be responsible for maintaining that facility year after year.

The Pool Details No One Sees Still Matter

Some of the most important work in a commercial pool eventually disappears from view.

Rebar gets covered. Pipes get buried. Forms come off. Concrete that took skill and sweat during pool construction may end up behind the pool structure. And it’s highly unlikely that a guest will ever stop and say, “Wow, would you look at that expertly designed pool plumbing and chemical automation layout!”

But we notice.

We care about it not only for the pride of a job well done, but because it will matter greatly to our commercial pool clients as they own and manage their aquatic facilities.

These are the hidden spaces where integrity shows up. It is easy to care about the pretty pool parts everyone sees. The tile line. The splash pad playground. The wave pool. The water slide. The finished pool deck. The water features.

The real test is finding a commercial pool builder who cares just as much about the work no one will ever compliment. If something is wrong behind the scenes, we do not believe in covering it up and hoping it holds. That is not how we were taught. That is not how we lead. That is not how we build. We believe in addressing it correctly because that is what our clients and their aquatic facility projects deserve.

Those hidden details can determine how a facility performs years from now. They affect service access, durability, and the experience of the owner and operator long after construction crews have left the site.

For us, quality is not only about the final walkthrough. It is about the holistic integrity of the workmanship, the quiet and purposeful decisions on the best materials and equipment for each project, and the quality standards no one sees in the photos. This is why so many people have trusted Sunbelt Pools for over 40 years to build their sensational commercial pool, water park, splash playground, and other indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities.

We Build Commercial Pools & Water Parks Where People Make Memories

There is something special about the commercial aquatics work we do.

A commercial pool, aquatic center, or water park is often one of the most visible parts of a property or community. Hotels highlight their pools because guests care about them. Cities showcase aquatic attractions because they bring families in. Community facilities become part of summer traditions, birthday parties, weekend plans, and ordinary days that turn into lasting memories.

That may sound simple. But it is the heart of why this work matters so much to us.

As commercial pool builders, we get to build places where people have fun. We build the public pool where a nervous kid finally takes swimming lessons. The municipal pool where families meet up on sweltering afternoons. The apartment pool that creates a unique sense of community. And the epic artificial wave pool surfing where teenagers delight in living their best lives.

There is pride in driving past a facility and knowing our team helped bring it to life. There is even more pride when our own employees can bring their families there, point to the work they helped create, and make special memories with their favorite people.

Commercial aquatic construction may be technical, but at the center of it is something very human and very beautiful.

Employee Ownership Changed the Future of Sunbelt Pools

In 2024, Sunbelt Pools became an employee-owned company through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).

That was not just a business decision. It was a legacy decision.

There were other roads we could have taken. Like a lot of pool companies, Sunbelt Pools could have been sold to outside investors. The name could have stayed the same while the heart of the company slowly changed. The people in the field, the people in the office, the people solving problems on job sites and keeping projects moving could have ended up working for a version of Sunbelt that did not feel quite like Sunbelt anymore.

That did not sit right.

Instead, leadership chose a path that protected the culture of our company and gave the people building Sunbelt Pools every day a real stake in its future.

That matters to us.

Employee ownership changes the way people think about the company. It creates a deeper sense of responsibility. It gives our team a shared reason to care about growth, quality, employee and client relationships, and long-term success. From the office to the field, every person contributes to the value of the company.

This extra responsibility shows up when our team is planning the design of swimming pools for a new aquatic park. It shows up when our crews are working through the real-world details of an hotel indoor pool, college natatorium, competitive lap pool, incredible city pool attraction, or Olympic pool. It shows up when a client needs a commercial pool contractor who cares about the project in all the ways that matter.

With an ESOP, we are not only working for the business. We are building it together. And because of that, our clients reap the benefits.

Servant Leadership Is Not a Slogan Here

We talk a lot about servant leadership because it is one of the clearest ways to explain how we want Sunbelt Pools to feel from the inside out.

To us, servant leadership means people come first.

It means caring about our employees’ time, quality of life, concerns, and professional growth. It also means being willing to listen when something needs to improve.

On the client side, it means honest conversations with invested parties looking through all the details of building a larger-than-life aquatic project. It means being available to give peace of mind and expert guidance. It means proactive communication and attention to detail.

Leadership in commercial pool design and execution cannot happen from a distance. We do not want to be the kind of pool company where leadership sits far away from the work and makes decisions without understanding the real-life impact on the project, the people building it, and the people owning it.

Many of our leaders have worked in multiple parts of the company. That creates perspective. When you have spent time in the field, in the warehouse, on job sites, or around the mechanical side of complex commercial pool installation, you lead differently. You understand that decisions made in an office eventually affect others down the line.

That perspective helps us build better systems. It also helps us offer support with more clarity and respect.

We Do Not Disappear After the Project Is Finished

A completed project is not the end of the relationship.

Commercial aquatic facilities need follow-through. They need communication, support, premium commercial swimming pool services, and a contractor who is willing to stand behind the work and help the owner transition into long-term operation.

We also watch out for warranties. Instead of waiting quietly for the warranty period to end, we believe in being proactive. As a project approaches the end of its warranty period, we want to walk the facility with the owner, review expectations, and address concerns while there is still time to handle them properly.

That type of follow-up does not happen by accident. It requires systems. It requires people who are paying attention. It requires a company culture that values doing the right thing, even when it would be easier to let something slide.

We are always working to improve those systems because our clients deserve more than good intentions.

Questions We Often Hear in Commercial Aquatics

What makes commercial pool construction different from residential pool construction?

Commercial pool construction involves heavier use, more complex systems, and a different level of planning. These facilities often serve hotels, municipalities, community centers, schools, water parks, and other high-use environments. The structure, equipment, access points, and long-term maintenance needs all have to be considered from the beginning.

Why does experience matter when choosing a commercial pool contractor?

Experience matters because many of the most important decisions happen before the finished pool is visible. Your commercial pool contractor needs to understand construction sequencing, permitting, mechanical systems, project coordination, and the details that affect long-term performance. Inexperienced decisions can create costly problems later.

What does employee ownership mean for Sunbelt Pools clients?

Employee ownership means our team has a real stake in the company’s success. With an ESOP, Sunbelt Pools is built around shared responsibility and long-term thinking. Our employees are helping build the future of the company, which strengthens accountability and pride in the work we do.

How does Sunbelt Pools approach quality control?

At Sunbelt Pools, we believe projects have to be handled with discipline. Not every project is the right fit. Sometimes a project may look exciting on paper but does not align with our schedule, our resources, or the goals we have set as a business. Saying no to the wrong project can be just as important as saying yes to the right one (and we love saying yes to the right ones). That honesty protects our clients and our team. We also offer control measures for the visible and hidden parts of the project. That includes the details that eventually get covered up, such as rebar, plumbing, and structural work. Our belief is simple: if it affects the success and operation of the commercial facility, communication, integrity, and quality control matter.

Does Sunbelt Pools support clients after construction is complete?

Yes. We believe follow-through and long-term care are part of the job. Our team values proactive communication, warranty support, commercial pool maintenance and care services, chemical and water delivery, and other services that support continued attention for owners and managers after the pool design and construction project is complete.
